I’ll Still Love You Even if You’re a Man 2, Chapter 1: Time
Countless times it can be described in vicious sentences, but it's awful to be indifferent to someone else, to belittle the other person's insignificance of mankind with the constant flow of words. It only takes grace to pass you by and you are changing. Only a child would want time to go faster, Mai Ding, who was no longer a child, wrinkled his brow and pondered the question, tapping his fingers against the desk’s top and put on a deep look. The student next to him, who Mai Ding thought was hopeless, was sleeping on his desk, and when Mai Ding finally woke him up in the morning, he fell asleep again in the classroom.
"An Ziyan, do you still have a little shame left?" Mai Ding finally couldn't resist reprimanding An Ziyan for not conforming to the healthy and positive image of the motherland next generation. Even though the two have been together for some time, there's still no nicknames or anything that can be called sweet between lovers.
"Troublesome."
"I just said the first sentence and you think I am troublesome? It's going to be an internship season soon, you need to get a little nervous about it!"
"A sense of tension is only needed by a retard like you."
Mai Ding clasped his hands in disbelief: "I am taking the employment issue seriously, as I am such an honest and diligent person, maybe many companies will be vying for me by then, I am quite worried about you, don't be discouraged to be a young man who has lost his footing with no job by then." Mai Ding stared at An Ziyan with sympathetic eyes as if he could predict the future, An Ziyan raised his head and propped his face with his hands: ''Vying for you? If I hadn't reluctantly accepted you, you'd have been picked up by the rags.”
"I'm not trash!"
"Who said you were trash?"
"That's pretty much the same."
"I explicitly said you were ragged rags."
"You..." Regardless of how his eloquence improved, An Ziyan was still way better, Mai Ding was not reconciled and couldn't fire back words at An Ziyan, but could not be reconciled with the pettiness of it all. He returned to the topic: "What are you going to do?"
It took a few seconds for the question to come out, and he continued: "Don't become a writer, just look at those ghost movies, many writers have to go to the middle of nowhere for inspiration, and the result is either go crazy or die a horrible death."
"Thank you for your valuable input." An Ziyan taunted.
"You're welcome, and it's only right to be able to help you on your path in life." Unable to understand the taunt, Mai Ding continued, "I always wanted to do something for the country."
"Your disappearance from the motherland is your greatest contribution to the motherland."
"Seriously, I used to want to be a cop when I was a kid." Recalling his childhood essay, An Ziyan squinted at Mai Ding with an expressionless face: "Don't go dragging down the national crime solving rate."
"Then a scientist."
"Don't go slow down the pace of technological progress in the country."
"Then a teacher!"
"Don't go dragging down the nation's educational standards."
"Do I still have a little value in your eyes?"
An Ziyan skimmed his head, and Mai Ding became even more exasperated, "You answer me!"
Already in their senior year, An Ziyan still hasn't changed much, as has Mai Ding.
When he got home from school, Mai Ding couldn't wait to rush to the computer. The second half of his senior year and he was already ready to start his internship, because one of his classes had found an internship today. He browsed the job sites, and the more he looked the more disappointed he became, the better companies almost always recruited people with work experience and higher education, who would recruit a novice intern. Discouraged, he walked to the living room and said to An Ziyan, who was half lying on the couch reading, "My future is a gloomy one."
"Why say what I already know."
"You're the one who cursed me every day to get me into this mess." Mai Ding shifted the blame to An Ziyan.
"I was kind enough to make you come to your senses."
"Your kindness is too much for me to bear." Mai Ding sat down next to An Ziyan and continued his own misery, looking at An Ziyan with hatred from time to time, admiring his leisurely attitude. Mai Ding was definitely jealous, but then he thought about it, he was married to An Ziyan, so his rich parents were also his rich parents. Sure enough, he is a good student.
Wandering thoughts returned, Mai Ding started thinking about employment again, An Ziyan removed the book and looked at Mai Ding's bitter face, sat up and covered his face with the book: "How about I pay you a dollar a day and you help me work?"
"I'll pay you two dollars, how about you sing my praises every day!" Mai Ding spoke back, and An Ziyan did not continue to flirt, "What kind of work do you want to do."
"Any job will do, as long as it makes me shine."
An Ziyan really didn't want to talk to him anymore, but he said anyway, "Be specific."
"What else can I pick for an internship now, I want to gain some work experience before I graduate, see what it's like to enter society, and get a steady job when I graduate, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of student internship work right now."
"You think work is like takeaway? It can be delivered to your door as you needed it today?" An Ziyan's words, Mai Ding also understood them and that he was in too much of a hurry, he was worried about not being able to find a job, he was thinking a lot about the future and couldn't be as sprightly about life as An Ziyan was, because life was a serious matter for Mai Ding. Personality differences have always existed, and rightfully so. Some people long for someone who is very similar to themselves, and this idea, apart from the fact that the odds are slim, is a boring and tedious thing to stay with the same people, and two selves are still the same person.
"But what are you going to do if I can't get a job in the future?" Mai Ding's tone is not small, because he can't judge what An Ziyan's casual and childish character can do, so he only rely on himself to support the family, An Ziyan patted Mai Ding's face, not like an intimate actions between lovers, but like the interaction between the upper class and the lower class in a gangster movie: "Do you think too much of yourself, you want to support me, do you know how much I am worth?" Mai Ding wanted to refute An Ziyan's shameless words, he looked up at his appearance, maybe it's time to read more dictionaries, Mai Ding has already used all the words in his body to describe his good looks, he flicked the corners of his mouth, he couldn't tell whether he was laughing lightly or making a bad choice, Mai Ding hands couldn't help but raise, without warning, tightly embraced An Ziyan, how easy for love to make people give in, he said, "Well, you are very expensive."
"What are you doing, let go." An Ziyan shouted.
