Miracle of a Teddy Bear English Fan
Translation, Chapter 09: Thief of the treasure trove.
It
has been over three weeks since Taohu transformed into a human being, our teddy
bear is still used to living in a house surrounded by his friends and his two
owners, Phii Nat and Madam Mathana.
Taohu has spent those days helping Madam Mathana and doing a lot of stuff. Lately he has started to cook and preparing favorite dishes while he was waiting for Phii Nat to come home. With a better taste than the teacher even made it but like I said and everything is done in the house. Taohu had never thought of stepping out, partly because Nat bought everything and stocked up enough for three people and the Bear had no reason to go out and find anything else.
But
today, after Phii Nat brought him back from the police station, he showered and
dressed and ate his mother’s food before leaving for work. It was the first day
that Taohu decided that he had to go out.
“I...
I want to find some snacks.” The little bear explained Madam Mathana with
reasonable reason.
Today
the Auntie was obscure and her fresh upbeat-self disappeared from the day
before when her husband could not be found, her bleak and dry eyes declared
that Khun Uncle Saen still had not coming back. She woke up early this morning
and after seeing him and Phii Nat waking up and being surprised that they were
up, she rushed to cook food for nephew and son, getting flustered again when
she heard that Taohu was going out.
“You
are going out to buy snacks, so the Little Prince has money? Wait, I will give
you some.”
She
got up from the sofa, put the novel book still bookmarked in front of the same
page as last night and walked over to open the bottom drawer of the pantry
where the wallet was.
Although
Madam Mathana rarely spends money, her son always keeps the money with her and
many times when the mother refuses. Nat will secretly take several small
banknotes and leaves and put them in his mother’s wallet.
However,
when the drawer was opened at noon today, there was no such wallet, “A, my
husband must have taken it, he hasn’t returned yet.”
“It’s
okay, the Auntie. Phii Nat also gave me some money.” Taohu lied.
“Huh...??”
Madam Mathana nodded and looked absent-minded, his expression more interested
in his next sentence than his words, “Oh...Little Prince, if you find Khun
Uncle, please come home with him.”
Even
though the Auntie is old, she’s agile and bright. Her being was indifferent,
sluggish and stuttering like a stuttering person like this made Taohu recall Miss Chair who was in Phii Nat’s
bedroom. Miss Chair kept trying to
speak a standard Thai despite her not being good at it, she’s so insecure that
she stutters... the Auntie also stuttered today because she had lost her
confidence.
Yesterday
after Phii Nat took the power plug from her mother’s hand and ordered Taohu to
bring her back to the sofa. the Auntie was still crying and she looked like a
terrified person.
With
pity and don’t know how to solve the problem because Phii Nat suddenly escaped
and went back to his bedroom. So, Taohu mustered up the courage and decided to
lie to Auntie, hoping it would give her some peace of mind. At least
temporarily.
“Khun
Uncle told me he had urgent business and had to go out for a while, he’ll be
back soon. Auntie don’t cry, he’ll see you soon he’ll regret making you sad.”
Madam
Mathana was able to stop being sad and didn’t deteriorate like a dry soul.
“Little
Prince.” Her one hand held Taohu’s hand tightly as if full of hope, “If you see
Khun Uncle, you have to tell him to come home quickly, I’m worried. Lately...
he hasn’t been able to go anywhere. Hey, what did he think of going out alone
and now there’s nothing outside, after seeing it in the news? there are only
bad guys and there’s no security...”
Something
in that speech brought Taohu’s gaze to the ground, where Khun Right Slipper was left alone.
A
bitter lump formed in the middle of his throat; the Bear wanted to cry but he
knew it wasn’t the time to cry.
“Huh,
the Auntie.” He replied with his eyes still on the same spot, “I’ll bring him
back... It must be nothing, our home is going back to being happy, happy
together and together as before.”
Khun Right Slipper should have heard and
understood what Taohu meant but his owner did not even open his eyes to look at
the action. That way, the congestion in Taohu’s chest became even more swell,
covering up his trachea and veins. ... He felt that he was suffocating and that
the blood would not pump to his brain, causing him to feel dizzy.
Missus Sofa probably caught up with how
he felt, so she said, “Handsome you did your best and others should understand
too. Not just waiting for the negative news!”
Missus Sofa’s words only stumbled because
Taohu reached out to touch her and she shook her head in a pleading manner.
He
understands how Khun Right Slipper
is feeling. Now he probably didn’t want to hear anything. It’s the same as
Madam Mathana is. The Auntie was sadly waiting for her husband and focused on
one thing until now, not even noticing that one of her slippers was missing,
she walked around barefoot without realizing that the hard floor was so cold.
When
something important to the heart is lost, the presence or absence of anything
else may no longer matter.
Taohu
left the house depressed, the outside world didn’t help him feel better. The
sun was too hot, the noise was too loud and then there was too much toxic smoke
and dust in the air. This is not a world where a fragile woman like Miss Left Slipper should be alone,
Taohu had to hurry and come as soon as possible and to find her and bring her
home as quickly as possible... He could only hope that by then Khun Right Slipper and Miss Left Slipper would forgive him.
The
path from the house to the pavement in front of the police station is quite
long but luckily it doesn’t have complicated turns. Taohu was able to remember
the route and walk by himself. On the way... He realized that he might be wrong
for not accepting the money from Madam Mathana. If he had the money, he could
use it to summon a win bike to help him get to his destination as quickly as he
wanted, the faster it would be good to get Miss
Left Slipper back.
Between
Khun Right Slipper and Miss Left Slipper. Taohu wasn’t sure who
was angrier with him. He has heard that hurting someone who we love causes more
injury than hurting us directly. Even more, Khun Right Slipper had felt bad for him before until now. He
acknowledged with silence, indifferent and without cursing, Taohu was no
different from yelling at himself. In the heart of the steppe who had always
believed in the teddy bear of the higher class than the former class. Khun Right Slipper has never believed
in goodwill between them.
This
incident like Taohu showed him even more that the stereotype of class was
right. The person who betrayed Khun
Right Slipper the most was not even Taohu but his loose-mindedness betraying
his position and ideals giving help to someone and ending up in a quagmire!
The
only hope left is... He had to bring back the Miss Left Slipper, this made him even more panicked as he returned
to the critical point but still couldn’t find anything important.
Miss
Left Slipper, where did you go?
The
midday sun was so strong that no one stood outside the shade of the tree or the
eaves. Everyone who passed by looked at a tall, slender man with reflective
white skin who steadily circled the front of the police station, trying to find
something. Some people nod to the person who walked and some came together to
look at the handsome man.
Soon
Taohu was completely drenched... He wiped the sweat on his forehead, if in the
end his hands were hanging like that more to hold his head.
This
area has no stalls and no beggars beside the police station, there is a row of
houses with solid doors or full glass walls, no nooks and corners where Miss Left Slipper will sneak in or get
kicked. It can even be swept away and buried. Taohu remembered that he and Phii
Nat went up to talk to the police. Not long after and then came back down and
didn’t see Miss Left Slipper anymore
and even though she promised to wait for him in place. This might mean that
during the time someone took her...
Revisiting
in the past. Taohu thought that he had finally found something.
Those
stray dogs!
The
two stray dogs that barked at him and Phii Nat as they were walking up to the
police station. They must have sneaked up onto Miss Left Slipper.
If
this is the case, then the area where the Miss
Left Slipper will get lost will be much wider and maybe after they left her
and then someone drew and kicked her. How could Taohu find her!
The
truth that has been revealed is heartbreaking, however, Taohu does not want to
give up... He kept walking, asking strangers on the street if anyone had seen
sandals that looked like this but until he survived. Even crossing the road to
the other side, no one has seen it yet.
The
Bear felt a sting on his skin, thirsts for water and at the same time becomes
sticky all over... He had his eyes fixed on a large community nearby with hope.
This
community bazaar has been renovated to a very clean, elevated floor and has
drainage and roof covering but even so, the air inside is still quite stuffy.
Taohu looked at the drink shop and just swallowed his saliva... He didn’t have
any money so he used to read books and watch video clips on Phii Nat’s Khun Mobile Telephone. No matter what
is out of the house, getting it takes money.
While
he could only purse his mouth and use his tongue to lick it back and forth, a
loud voice sounded near him saying, “Young man, young man!”
It’s
past noon but the market is still bustling, there are the sounds of vendors
shouting and chatting, there are televisions, radios, not including the
conversation of things that humans can’t hear. At first Taohu didn’t think that
the voice had called him, only after being nudged behind his shoulder, he was
startled.
The
owner of the voice is a woman the same age as Madam Mathana but looks younger
as she maintains her beautiful figure and meticulous makeup, her eyebrows have
been plucked out. Curved greenish black painted, sharp eyeliner, red lips
slightly above the rim to make it look fuller, the long hair is too raven,
probably because of the dye, I was coiled over my head by a net. Black lace.
“Did
you come shopping? Usually, I had never seen you outside.”
Taohu
didn’t know the woman. He just saw it and hadn’t seen it so he answered the
other party, “Huh.”
That
person must have guessed, so he smiled and suggested that, “I am an aunt named
Chan, I live next door to Madam Na. You have been living in a house with Madam
Na for a while, right? you come to take care. Madam Na?”
Knowing
who the other person was, the little bear revealed a relieved smile that he was
friendly, “Huh, Aunt Chan, my name is Taohu.”
“I
pity Madam Na.” The speaker said as he touched his arm as a footpath for him to
walk because standing still would block the road.
When
Taohu followed, she continued, “Madam Na is home alone, no friends for a long
time and Nat always comes back late at night and I don’t know if he has taken
his mother to the doctor or not.”
“Go
to the doctor?”
“It’s
about how she’s not feeling well.” A woman named Chan raised her hand and
knocked over her temple.
Taohu
has therefore just understood.
True,
in the eyes of Taohu. Madam Mathana she just misses Khun Uncle Saen too much
but in the eyes of others. the Auntie must have been like a sick person, the
cold wind that blew onto the Choipi Soi thirty years ago had made her sick
until now. However, think about it. Taohu has never seen Madam Mathana take any
pills.
“When
does she usually go to the doctor?”
His
honest question made Aunt Chan exclaim, “OMG! Hey, Nat won’t really take care
of his mother, I used to say I’ll help but he’s very private... artists.”
Taohu
was very displeased that Phii Nat was blamed. Even if it’s true, he still
defends him, “Maybe Phii Nat thinks that. the Auntie just misses Khun Uncle too
much.”
“Huh?”
The short interjection but with the sight and certain implications of Aunt
Chan’s expression made Taohu unable to continue speaking.
The
middle-aged woman ignored his answer, continued walking and her gaze swept
through the side of the pickup truck, yet her mouth asked him, “And you, come
out like this, leave Madam Na alone, won’t it be okay alone?”
That’s
right. Actually, Taohu is worried and Auntie is worried.
Miss Left Slipper should have made him worried
but he’s really out of wit.
I
don’t know where else to go to find her and in the end the Bear replied softly,
“I’ll go back soon.”
“Well,
the old woman is not good at doing anything, the more uncomfortable it is, the
better it is to stay close.”
“Thank
you very much.” Taohu replied... He said he should be happy. On a bad day, at
least he still has some kind new friends.
After
parting with Taohu Madam Chan continues to steer through the pick-up trucks in
the fresh market.
Usually,
she wakes up early for jogging and then takes the opportunity to buy some
things to take home with her. A beautiful woman like her did not want to leave
the house in the early hours of the day for fear that her well-maintained
complexion may get spot freckles, her face had a few tiny dots and that was all
it needed for her to spend time and cost of treatment until all those scars
went away.
Probably
because she grew up in a food business. Madam Chan is so conscious of her
health that she does not eat ready-made food outside the home at all. When she
goes shopping, she embodies the pursuit of raw materials meticulously. She
reproaches clean eaters for the word “clean.” What they eat may not even be as
‘clean’ as the food she chooses and makes herself, that’s why she mocks them
for being fashionable because they never really knew anything.
Madam
Chan’s meticulous selection of ingredients is famous, it is said that even the
customers who visit in this fresh market are many but almost every shop still
recognizes her. The merchants didn’t like her very much and even if they didn’t
dare to argue with her, someone whispered that she knew someone in the ministry
that was in charge of food (of course, the merchants didn’t really care what
the ministry was) who was more famous than that. It is said that one of Madam
Chan’s friends once managed to close a wet market just because a customer’s car
stopped in front of the house for a few hours.
Therefore,
even just seeing their faces they hate her but when she moves closer to the
panel, the panel owner fakes a smile and invites her to enjoy, “Come today,
sir, you will just get burned in the sun.”
“Tag
your name on your chest and walk under the roof, spread an umbrella, use SPF
thirty-five sunscreen, apply it often to help you avoid getting burnt.”
“Oh,
uh...” The seller dragged a long voice, the smile began to grow greasy.
“I
came out to do some buying today. What province does this kale come from?”
“Oh,
I don’t know, I got it from the four corners of the city.” So, that each other
will be lengthened by the other side’s explanation. The seller therefore
pretended to avoid the point that, “Just now, Madam Chan, who were you talking
to? He is so handsome.”
“His
name is Taohu.” The respondent didn’t look into the questioner’s eyes but she
wrote a finger into the handful of vegetables on the panel, “The kid came to
Madam Mathana’s new home and told me he is here to take care of her. The owner
of the house asks nothing but seems like his son will bring him into the house
more.”
“His
son brought him into the house?”
Madam
Chan moved her mouth to say something and even then, with sensitivity, she shut
up and only smiled at the corners of her mouth.
Sometime
ago, ten days ago. When the afternoon was a good shade, a meticulous
middle-aged woman who was preparing to leave the house to go to a beauty clinic
in her favorite place accidentally heard an interesting conversation drifting
over from the adjacent fence.
‘I’m
not sure, I feel sorrier for Auntie.’
‘Huh?
with twins who like and look alike. Should it be difficult to choose?’
Only
the listener flirted with honey bee ears, slowly moving from the door of the
house closer to the side of the fence.
The
sound that rang later. Madam Chan remembers the voice of someone who had just
entered the house next to a handsome boy in his twenties who had been watching
Madam Mathana all day. On the surface it looks like someone who comes to be a
friend and takes care of the sick but the female caretaker is not a boy and
Madam Chan in particular is skeptical. Some issues go deeper than that...
‘No,
I pity the Auntie because Khun Uncle’s competitor is also Khun Uncle’s sibling.
Even if Phii Ken said that the two are not close to each other, they still have
to see each other more often than normal people who don’t know each other,
right? the Auntie must have been very difficult when deciding who to choose
because it could lead to the two of them falling apart and leaving a mark on
the relationship.’
‘Well,
that’s true but things like this can’t be forced here. If at the end of the
race and then lose, then you have to accept the condition and don’t want us to
think too much, so don’t forget to take it back and think in the end. Who will
Taohu choose?’
The
dialogue is as short as this but the expression, eye color and meaning of the
speaker makes it possible for the person who is the most foolish to know the
meaning. Madam Chan smirked in her heart and her suspicions began to clear and
even, as she took another step closer, her damn foot hit a branch that had
fallen from the house next to it, there was a loud Crack!
That
young man turned around, causing her to hide almost immediately. After that,
she couldn’t hear the next sentence.
But
that’s it, for a smart man like Madam Chan. This can be summed up.
Instead
of uncovering the whole story until the vegetable vendor sees that it is she
who is eavesdropping. Madam Chan turned the answer simply:
“Oh,
don’t you know what Nat is...”
Until
he arrives at the exit of the market. Taohu was in a state of shock. No matter
who you ask, the answer seems to be the same and Miss Left Slipper has not been
seen by anyone, not even one.
He
felt very guilty but told himself that it was time to go home.
As
he was about to step past the eaves of the bazaar, amidst the hustle and
bustle, Taohu’s ears suddenly heard a faint sound.
“But
that’s the teddy bear!?”
“Nong
Nat is now a human. So, yummy, no wonder Nong Nat secretly makes him enter
house and lied that he was a human taking care of his mother! “
The
voice at the end confirmed Taohu. The person who is a Miss Calculator and Miss
Chopping Board are gossiping about in the pork shop is him. After seeing
Taohu turn around, both of them opened their eyes wide and pretended to calmly
return to sleep.
Normally
Taohu is not an angry person, besides Miss
Side Pillow, he almost never scolds anyone but because this time the bad
talker reaches his beloved owner... He couldn’t agree.
The
Bear’s tall figure took a soft step and came to a stop in front of the pig
stall. The pork in the tray and hanging on a reddish pink hook looked
terrifying but it wasn’t as frightening as the savage rays radiating from Taohu
now.
He
took a deep breath, trying to spell mood first because he loved politeness
anyway, “Sorry, you guys have misunderstood!”
“Hm?”
The round-shaped pork stall seller looked up from his mobile phone and was puzzled.
“I
don’t know where you guys got all this stuff from but me and Phii Nat are not
like that!”
“Who
is Phii Nat? What’s the matter?”
Probably
because she was afraid that things would escalate because his owner, who was
the shop owner was probably starting to get irritated... Miss Calculator opened her eyes, moved, nudged an adjacent wooden
chopping board, softly replying, “Who knows? Well, the stuff in here, they keep
talking about.”
“Yes,
wasn’t she talking to Madam Chan just now? This news comes from Madam Chan.”
Hearing
that, Taohu even opened his eyes, there must have been a misunderstanding! He hadn’t spoken to Aunt Chan
at all, she seemed to be a trustworthy person. Shouldn’t create a rumor to
offend anyone and especially being a true neighborhood person.
For
this reason. Even though the shopkeeper who owns the pork chop stalls bangs on
the chopping board! Asked, “What, is, your, problem lad!” He ignored him,
lifted his chin and prepared, stepping back into the market.
“Madam
Chan isn’t in here, she’s off to that side.” said Miss Calculator, “She must have hitched a taxi by now? It’s so hot,
she will not walk in the sun.”
“Thank
you!” Finishing, he turned around and let the merchant point his finger and
shout.
“Hey!
Come back, looking for a fight and then just run away so easily?”
Taohu
had ignored the voice behind him and almost forgot that he had failed in
today’s mission, what was in his head right now was that he had to go quickly
back. Not to enter Phii Nat’s house but the house next door! It must be quick
to understand Aunt Chan, to prevent her from saying anything wrong and further
disgrace his owner.
Even
though the weather was hot and he was tired and thirsty. Taohu still ran with
all his strength in his head, composing his thoughts on what to say, Aunt Chan
understood... He probably didn’t communicate well while talking to each other
in the market, so that person misunderstood. Therefore, it may lead to
misunderstandings.
By
the time he reached the fence in front of Aunt Chan’s house, Taohu’s body had
become drenched again... He rang the bell and tiptoed inside, hoping that the
goal would arrive. At least if Taohu arrives, he can relax a bit that she
probably hasn’t talked to anyone besides the market people (yes, a teddy bear
like Taohu doesn’t know the market is an efficient place for gossip and rumors
mill in the market). How much news is spread?
Someone
stepped out behind a glass door in the house, when his owner saw who was
ringing the bell sliding the door and stepped out to welcome him, “Whatever,
Taohu can do it.”
“I
have a very important matter to discuss with Aunt Chan.”
The
woman still smiled on her face, her eyebrows raised slightly as if afraid that
wrinkles will imprint on the surface of her forehead and her smooth hand,
unscrew the door, exit.
Taohu
followed the owner of the house and his two hands still twisted tangled fingers
nervously. Even when Madam Chan slides the glass door open and the cool air of
the air conditioner blows out, the feeling that is the result of the intention
has not subsided.
“Go
sit on the sofa, I’ll get you some waters, why don’t you call the car in, I’m
so tired.”
It’s
true, Aunt Chan is quite courteous and kind to others, so to talk about me and
Phii Nat like that, must be misunderstood, definitely wrong.
Taohu
nods and walks down to wait. Aunt Chan’s living room suite is the same size as
Phii Nat’s house but the interior is narrower as this house uses rather bulky
furnishings and is all dark genuine leather. The walls and shelves were adorned
with real and fake animal carcasses, including deer heads mounted on the walls,
ceramic eagles, stuffed butterflies, as well as snakeskin bags and crocodiles
when wrapped around them. The house that was drawn by the curtain.
Closed
on all sides, relying only on fluorescent lighting and making it look not an
exhibition but in Taohu’s sense he is like a tomb, a collection of living
remains!
Yes, Taohu realized in the next
minute, that he felt the latter because there was no sound in this house.
Strange There weren’t any objects in the house chatting like they were wrecks
either. A corpse without a soul.
Aunt
Chan stepped back with a tall glass of red water, handed it to Taohu and sat
down on the sofa next to it.
The
Bear said thank you and decided to open the matter so as not to look too rude,
“Aunt Chan closes all the curtains like this, no wonder, I’ve never seen Aunt
Chan before.”
“In
sunlight there are UVA and UVB rays, our skin can become dull and wrinkled.
Good or bad will be cancer too.”
“I’ve
never seen anyone else.”
“I
only live with my husband just the two of us... He works in the provinces and
it takes a while to come and go back to that place.”
“Oh...ha.”
He mumbled and raised a sip of water, the red melting water so sweet that his
throat almost choked.”
“Just
now, Taohu, did you have something important to talk to me about?”
“Yes.”
The Bear changed his attitude, putting a glass of water on the glass table
intently to speak formally, “Before returning from the market, I heard you
er... Someone said Phii Nat had whored me in the house and not just to take
care of his mom... He said it was from Aunt Chan.”
Spoken
plainly, eyes wide open, showing great conviction that the person in front of
him will be rejected.
Aunt
Chan was still smiling with a slight raising of the corners of his mouth for
fear of wrinkles and she asked softly, “Huh, who said that?” Taohu was
embarrassed to himself, “Well...” and he was never used to or comfortable with
lying, “I don’t know his name.”
“If
you don’t know, don’t trust him too much, Taohu. People these days keep
talking, it’s hard to believe.”
“That’s
it.” The Bear breathed a sigh of relief, becoming even more convinced that his
respected Madam Chan wouldn’t do anything the Miss Chopping Board and Miss
Calculator say, “I was also reading from a book, it seems sometimes people
are hard to trust.”
“You
never know if someone who looks kind is actually kind then he’s as kind as he
shows us or not. The person closest to us might be the one who is the most
unreliable.” As he spoke, the landlord glanced down at his glass of water,
picked up a few sips, then coughed, “OMG, this is too sweet. Taohu, don’t tell
me.”
The
person being protested smiles and Aunt Chan laughs affectionately, “Hey, you
can’t trust me anymore, right?”
“How
cute you are, I must be cute to you for sure.”
The
owner of the house raised her eyes slightly, only to find that Taohu was still
gritting his teeth. Aunt Chan grinned a bit wider and she spoke.
Her
speech paused a little because the person spoke with his tongue licking his
lips, “I’d better go and make a new one, tomorrow I’ll go to the market and
I’ll hear people say, I haven’t had enough of the nectar yet and come on.”
Taohu
gave thanks when the other party returned the glass of water and was relieved
to clear it and at the same time was considerate of the landlady who
suddenly... He brought the matter, causing discomfort like this.
While
sitting and waiting, his gaze swept over to find on the back of the showcase
where the big television set was placed. An antique framed painting was placed,
feeling more familiar to the owner of the house. Taohu got up and took a closer
look.
The
picture is supposed to have been drawn for a long time, the lines are faded yet
it is noticeable that the feminine beauty of the original model has been slowed
down to a virtual image. She is so sleek and confident that those nearby and
likely to be intimidated, below are the artist’s signatures with doodles on
them. Taohu has tried to decipher the words.
“When
I was young, I was so beautiful that Taohu is mesmerized, right?” The person
who came back asked jokingly and it was the same second that Taohu had just
read the inscription, “For Miss Uma...”
“That’s
my old name, I just changed it later because Abbot said about my new family
name, Satjaree (Truth) is more appropriate, see. Even my name still has the
word “Truth” which means truth. I won’t lie to you, Taohu.”
However,
the person who was the listener was not as interested in the new name as the
old name.
Strange,
Aunt Chan’s old name sounds familiar, as if I’ve heard it somewhere before.
In
the adjacent house.
Madam
Mathana was hunched over for something, when she heard the sliding glass front
door, she lifted her head and tightened her glasses.
Seeing
it as her son, the mother smiled widely, “Today, Nat, you returned early.”
Keunchaai
ran out to welcome the young man with joy, slipping out the slippers of Madam
Mathana who had only one left as well and for Nat to compliment him like
always.
“Well,
good job. Keunchaai good, you can put it away.” The newcomer placed a bag of
snacks and fruits on the pantry counter, not far from the living room set. If
it’s always then his owner should be quick to come and compete with Keunchaai
That’s it but today didn’t show up, so Nat asked his mother, “What about Taohu?
mother.”
“He
went to call Nong Ai.” Madam Mathana murmured as she walked around to open the
refrigerator and poured a glass of water to her son, continued speaking and
handed a glass to him, “Little Prince went out and said she wanted some snacks,
so I asked him to tell your father.”
“He
wanted a snack?” The son took the glass and ignored the first sentence.
“Huh,
he’s been out a long time ago. I wonder if he is waiting for your father.”
“What
else would he want to eat? I bought a lot every day.” The cold water still
didn’t help him calm down and the young man grumbled, raising his eyebrows, “He
probably wants to eat something else that you didn’t buy.” Mother helped to
mediate and then stepped forward and continued to lean forward.
“So,
what are you looking for?”
“A
wallet.” And the mother replied without turning around, “I’ve been looking
since morning and I still haven’t found it, son.”
Listening,
the young man stepped and pulled down the drawer below the pantry, his mother
said that this was a place to hide but probably no one in the house would know.
Maybe his mother is so forgetful.
The
Decent Person also explains the long-standing character of a social science
teacher who specializes in history, “Nat, it’s good that you gave him money
because I didn’t have any money for him.”
The
listener’s eyebrows furrowed together tightly.
First
of all, the drawer doesn’t really have his mother’s purse. On the other hand,
Nat is confident that he has never given Taohu a single baht.
The
mother continued to complain about her husband but as always, the son did not
listen. Even now his eyes began to sweep around the house, the back of the
house was often cleaned up because Taohu came in and took care of his mother.
But today was overgrown with Keunchaai’s skill, which shows that Taohu really
must have been out a long time ago.
As
if knowing his owner was thinking about it, the Fat Prince Dog slipped Madam
Mathana’s one slipper back and laid it next to the pantry drawer. If it was a
normal time, Nat would have laughed in his heart how well he knew. This is
where he saw his shoes removed in the first place as well.
‘You
never know if someone who looks kind is actually kind then he’s as kind as he
shows us or not. The person closest to us might be the one who is the most
unreliable.’
Those
words echoed in his mind, when Taohu finally realized that... He had heard the
name. ‘Uma’ from where?
‘She’s
a woman who is knowledgeable, confident, self-reliant and self-determination
unlike me who is not good at doing anything.’
That’s
right...Uma! This is the name of the woman who used to put Madam
Mathana in such trouble.
‘Mrs.
Uma makes me feel so small. The first day Khun Uncle got out of the car to say
hi, she had a beautiful smile with bright red lipstick. There was a sweet voice
and jokingly said that Madam Mathana was a lucky person. You have people
waiting to help you but I’m happy with your luck because it made me a lucky
person. It’s a good thing that is the same.’
But...
the world wouldn’t be that perfect, Aunt Chan looks so kind and it’s unlikely
to be the same person who could make Phii Nat’s mother miserable.
“Taohu,
do you like to look at pictures?” Aunt Chan-Satjaree aka the former Uma asked
when she saw the guest staring at his self-portrait with interest for a long
time. Her slim figure flew to the bottom of the cupboard to open the glass
door, picked up the stacked old picture frame and handed it to him.
“I
put it on top and forgot it and now it is dusty, cluttered too, so I picked it
all up.”
Taohu
didn’t say a word, each shot passed his eyes and it felt as if he was stepping
deep into a secret lake.
Most
of the photographs are of Aunt Chan, a young woman and she is dressed in chic
outfits showing her confident personality, many photos are with a man,
physically tall and thin, always wearing a dress that is larger than his body
size and doesn’t know what is fashionable. Is that or how? However, what
impressed Taohu’s eyes was the strange feeling of familiarity with his owner.
The
Bear took that picture and placed it on the back of the cabinet and looked at
the next picture in his hand.
This
time there are four people in the picture. One was Aunt Chan, the other was a
girl who looked familiar only but was smaller than the present, less confident
than the present.
“Do
you remember? Madam Mathana.”
Yes,
Phii Nat’s mother! The two women stood on the left and right sides, in
the middle are two other men and they look alike but have completely different
aura.
“Khun
Sibmun and Khun Saen.”
“Huh...Huh?”
“These
two looks alike, don’t you see? They are twins. Their parents named one of them
Saen and the other one Sibmun. Khun Sib was bigger because he was a soldier but
your aunt’s husband was small because he worked as a factory manager.”
“Wa...Wait
a minute. the Auntie, you mean the factory manager Khun Saen is Madam Mathana
husband!?”
The
narrator’s smile faltered for a bit and her eyes shone equally as she explained
what had happened.
The
next explanation is so sweet that even the subtle implications linger in it.
“That’s
right, Taohu. Khun Saen is my husband and Madam Mathana’s husband is Khun
Sibmun.”
