Love is More than a Word, Chapter 78: Strike First (6)...
When Lao Tao got sleepy, he saw that Gu-She also looked like he didn't want to listen, so he wiped his face and went out, leaving him alone to rest. As soon as he stepped out of the room, he smelled the fragrance of rice in the corridor and couldn't help but look down the stairs.
Lao Tao's mouth was dry and his stomach was empty, so he hesitated to go downstairs to have his meal but then Gu Xiaojia came up from the bottom of the stairs, his eyes as red as rabbits, his hands carefully carrying the hot medicine, for fear of spilling a drop. Hao Guozi followed behind him, never taking his eyes off Gu Xiaojia, not sure if he was afraid that he would drop the medicine, or that the stairs would fall on him.
When they get close, Lao Tao takes slight side steps to make way for them.
Gu Xiaojia suddenly stopped in his tracks, her two red eyes staring straight up at Lao Tao from the bottom: “With your martial arts skills, it should be easy for you to stop Young Master from being beaten?”
Lao Tao: “Yes.”
Gu Xiaojia gave him a hateful glare, “You, huh, good!”
Hearing Gu Xiaojia stomp away in anger, Hao Guozi sighed to Lao Tao, “Why do you have to be so blunt?” Everyone knows that Gu-She brought this beating on himself. Gu Xiaojia can't blame Gu-She, he can only take it out on Lao Tao.
Lao Tao said, “If I lie, will he believe me?”
“... No, no.” I'm afraid that not only will he not but he'll get even angrier. Hao Guozi sighed.
Lao Tao said, “You go tell the Innkeeper’s servant to boil a bucket of hot water for the bath.”
Hao Guozi opened his eyes wide and said, “Gu-She is wounded like this and you still want to bathe him?”
Lao Tao said, “It's not Gu-She, it's for the Young Master."
“Young Master?" Hao Guozi jumped to his feet, unable to hide the joy on his face. But, then he fell, “How can Young Master come back when even Gu-She has been beaten?” It was only today that he learned that the unassuming Gu-She, the Young Master Gu was the beloved son of Minister Xiang, the world-famous Gu Xianzhi. Thinking of all the disrespect he had shown toward Gu She, he felt a pang of fear rise up from the bottom of his heart. For the sake of Young Master, Gu-She should not be too concerned about what Hao Guozi did in the past.
“Just don't worry.” Lao Tao's face was inscrutable.
Hao Guozi exclaimed, “But who would have thought that he would be Gu Xianzhi’s son, Gu Xianzhi, Gu Xianzhi?” The man is a Great Scholar, who has been famous for a long time, is no longer available to the masses but he has no regrets to have met the greatest talent of our time.
When Lao Tao saw him, he was so engrossed in his success that he didn't bother to pay attention to him and walked down the street. Just two steps away, he saw a few the bailiffs-looking people escorting someone in. The guy looked depressed but there was a purity in his brow, if not Tao Mo, who?
“Young Master!" Lao Tao greeted me excitedly. Although he guessed that the Prefectural Magistrate would mend his ways and send someone back in order to impress Gu-She, it wasn't as good as seeing it with his own eyes.
Hao Guozi suddenly turned around and immediately followed him.
Tao Mo was also excited to see him, immediately ran forward, looked at Lao Tao and then Hao Guozi and asked, “How is everyone doing?”
Lao Tao's mouth stiffened and the rest of his eyes turned towards the bailiffs behind him.
The bailiffs, with their pale faces, came up to Tao Mo and booed him, apparently having been reminded of him before he arrived.
Tao Mo was baffled by the question and could only reply with a resounding, “Fine, everything's fine.”
Lao Tao smiled fleshly and said, “Isn't it a little late to be asking at this point?”
The bailiffs understood what he meant and said, “You are the prime minister’s son’s friend, so you can spare the ignorant men and you will not count the faults of small men who were following orders.”
Lao Tao saw that he looked familiar, thought about it and remembered that the two people in front of him were the ones who carried out Gu-She's caning today and smirked, saying that the Prefectural Magistrate is really good at releasing Tao Mo as a gesture of goodwill and then using the two the bailiffs to analyze their attitude. If they are angry with the bailiffs, it is obvious that they hold a deep grudge, then the Prefectural Magistrate will have to find another way. If their side loosens up, the Prefectural Magistrate's side will also loosen up.
Thinking about it this way, Lao Tao had an idea and said, “I'm not the Prime Minister and I don't know what's going on in his mind. The man’s son is still in bed, so let's wait until he wakes up.”
Hao Guozi reluctantly added, “This is probably the first time in his life he's had this kind of injury and there's no telling how long he'll have to nurse it!”
The bailiffs heard their tone of voice and they all went pale.
Even Tao Mo heard some of the words and asked angrily, “What happened?”
Hao Guozi looked at the bailiffs and smirked.
The bailiffs didn't dare to ask for more, so they all left.
Lao Tao saw that Tao Mo was still staring at him and sighed, “Young Master just came out of there and he still has bad luck, so why don't you take a bath and freshen up first.”
Tao Mo was about to nod his head and say yes, when he thought of Gu-She and asked, “Where's Xianzhi?”
Lao Tao is very deep and even before he heard this, Hao Guozi was shocked and said, “Young Master already knew he was Gu Xianzhi?"
Tao Mo was confused: “Of course I know. Xianzhi is his given name.”
The three of them were still blocking the doorway, so it was inconvenient for them to have a long conversation, so Lao Tao said, “Let's go back to the room first.”
Tao Mo looked at Hao Guozi and Lao Tao who were both about to say something and was shocked and when they entered the room, he eagerly asked, “But something happened to Xianzhi?”
Lao Tao looked at Hao Guozi, who was looking at him with eyes wide open. Lao Tao sighed and told him what had happened at Gu-She's court today.
Before he could finish, Tao Mo's eyes turned red. When Lao Tao said that Gu-She didn't want to see him, Tao Mo's tears started to fall silently, like drops of tears.
Hao Guozi was looking for a towel to wipe his tears but before he could find it, Tao Mo was already wiping his sleeve haphazardly, saying, “I, I'll bathe first.”
Hao Guozi was stunned. He thought Young Master would rush over to see Gu-She.
Tao Mo said, “He saved my life. I should have listened to him.” If Gu-She doesn't want to see him now, he won't go, even though his heart has flown a thousand times, he'll hold back. This time he got out, Gu-She earned it with his wounds, so he can't spoil himself, bathe, change, sleep... he wants to see him next time, he's clean. He hoped that the next time he saw her, he'd be clean and Gu-She, healthy.
But it's easier said than done.
When Tao Mo really finished his bath and lay down on his bed, he realized that his tired body was not enough to drag him into a deep sleep. The word Gu-She; Xianzhi was like a tangled vine, entangling itself in his mind and the more he tried to fall asleep, the tighter the vine wound, the more it wouldn't let go.
After lying for an hour in this way, he finally got some sleepy sleep and he heard a noise outside, the door was kicked by all sorts of things and then he heard Gu Xiaojia shouting: “Tao Mo. You have no heart!”
Then there was the sound of chaos.
He could vaguely hear Hao Guozi lowering his voice, “Young Master is not who you think he is.”
He was answered with a series of whimpers.
Gu Xiaojia stared at Hao Guozi, who was trying to cover his mouth and waved both hands desperately, trying to ask him to hold him down.
In the midst of the stalemate, the door burst open and Tao Mo, standing in the doorway in his coat, whispered, “Let him come in and talk.”
Gu Xiaojia took advantage of Hao Guozi's weakness, immediately got away from him, jumped into Tao Mo's room, put his hand on his waist and started bad-mouthing Tao Mo.
Hao Guozi stood behind Tao Mo and whispered, “Ever since Gu-She got injured, he's been like this, yelling at everyone he catches. Lao Tao just got yelled at by him.”
Gu Xiaojia listened with a glare: “What do you mean by catching everyone and scolding them? Did I scold you? Is it wrong of me to scold you? If it wasn't for him, my family Young Master wouldn't have suffered such humiliation! When he came back, the magistrate didn't even care, such an ungrateful thing, did I scold you wrongly?”
Hao Guozi said, “Naturally you scolded wrongly, my family Young Master is not going to see Gu-She, not because he doesn't want to but because Gu-She won't let him!”
Gu Xiaojia said, “It's obvious that you don't want to go! If you want to go, you'll have to go regardless of who stops you!”
Tao Mo sighed softly, “Before I go, I want to think about one thing first.”
Gu Xiaojia snorted, “What is it?”
Tao Mo: “Should I remain an official.”
Hao Guozi was so shocked, his eyes almost popped out.
