Love is More than a Word, Chapter 56: Beware of visitors with gifts (2)...
Shuffling down the stairs in a breeze, Tao Mo saw Gu-She bathed in the sunrise.
Slim eyebrows, handsome and elegant.
Tao Mo's heart suddenly fluttered with unfamiliar emotions.
At first sight of Gu-She, he stood behind his friend, aloof and arrogant, unapproachable. He had been hanging on to him ever since. He says it was unintentional but in fact, it was intentional, using it as a cover to intentionally get close to him, even if it was just a mirror image. However, the more intimate, the more mired does it seem in the mud, hard to hold on to. As Gu-She waited for him at the breakfast table, Tao Mo's heart was torn between emotion and loss, both of them like a tidal wave.
The more you have, the more you fear to lose. It is human nature. He did not know that if he ever learned that Gu-She was talking about marriage, he would
Gu-She suddenly looked over to the side, looking appalled.
Tao Mo returned under his gaze and it was only then that he found himself crying without even realizing it.
Gu-She got up and stepped towards him.
Tao Mo's feet were pinned in place like nails.
"Nightmare now?" Gu-She asked.
Tao Mo froze, then wiped his face haphazardly on his sleeve and responded in a low voice.
"Liar." Gu-She turned blandly and returned to his seat.
Tao Mo became apprehensive at his one-upmanship and sat down carefully behind him, "How do you know I'm lying?"
Gu-She cast a glance at Gu Xiaojia and said, "Another snooze?"
Tao Mo reacted. The first time I saw Gu Xiaojia, I was fine but the second time I saw her, I was in tears and it was clear that the nightmare had nothing to do with it.
"I..." he blushed, racking his brain for excuses.
"Food doesn't speak." Gu-She scooped up the porridge and ate it slowly and deliberately.
Tao Mo gauged his face as he ate.
Gu-She is steady as a rock.
Tao Mo was thinking about apologizing for missing the appointment yesterday when he heard footsteps on the stairs and Lao Tao and Hao Guozi came down together.
Gu Xiaojia looked at Gu-She and waved at Hao Guozi, "This way."
Hao Guozi thought of him glaring at him this morning and thought it would be a good opportunity to ask him about it, so he walked away.
Lao Tao, however, walked to the table where Gu-She and Tao Mo were sitting.
Tao Mo saw Lao Tao coming over and busily said, "Let's eat together." Since his father had passed away, he had always treated Lao Tao like a father in his heart but had never treated him like an inferior.
Lao Tao asked, "Has the Young Master run out?"
Tao Mo jaws slackened.
"Then let's go back to the courthouse." Lao Tao said, "Young Master slept early yesterday and hasn't waited for Master Advisor Jin to report back yet."
Tao Mo remembered the Wan Feng murders and stood up in a flash, "Ah! I almost forgot, let's get out of here."
Gu-She asked with a stern smile, "Is it the case you brought up yesterday?" Tao Mo was present when he informed Yiyu of the murder.
Tao Mo: "Exactly. I wonder if the magistrate of the neighboring county has already started an investigation."
Gu-She thought to himself, "I'll go with you."
Lao Tao declined, "I'm afraid Young Master Gu is inconvenienced by the place where he is on official business."
Gu-She remained silent and just looked at Tao Mo.
Tao Mo instantly said, "Young Master Gu is not an outsider either."
Lao Tao was startled.
Gu-She, who had been nonchalant, also showed some interest in the face.
Tao Mo remedied the situation by saying, "I mean, Young Master Gu already knows about this, too and might be able to give some advice. It's not like they're completely unrelated. Why don't we go sit together at the magistrate's office?"
Gu-She said, "So, respectfully."
Lao Tao suddenly regretted everything. Perhaps using Gu-She against Yiyu yesterday was the biggest mistake of all. He thought of a saying - it's easier to invite the gods than to send them away.
When they arrive at the magistrate's office, Master Advisor Jin is in his study. He is shocked to see Gu-She but having been in the bureaucracy for many years, he has developed the ability to keep a straight face, so he just greets him warmly and turns to Tao Mo to talk about the handover.
The police have been trying to find out what happened to the victim. But the police are not ready to take them on.
Tao Mo wondered, "Then why did the magistrate put it off?"
Master Advisor Jin said, "The deceased was wounded by an arrow. He was wounded by either a man of the world or the guardian of a powerful man and either one is not easy to offend."
Lao Tao said, "Why wouldn't it be a hunter?"
Master Advisor Jin said, "Orion's arrowheads would not be so small and delicate. The arrow on the dead man originally had writing engraved on it but it was shaved off, so it must have been ordered."
Tao Mo: "Murder?"
Lao Tao said, "It might not only be murder, but it might also be a hunt."
Tao Mo felt a chill, "Why?"
Lao Tao said, "The arrows of ordinary robbers would never be so exquisite, nor would they be engraved on them. Green Foresters who can shout their names on the road do engrave their arrows but they would never scrape them away hastily at the time of the incident. Therefore, although Wan Feng has lost his luggage and appears to have been robbed, it is not very likely that he was in fact robbed."
Master Advisor Jin heard and nodded and said, "Exactly."
Tao Mo said, "If it was murder, why did they murder him?"
Master Advisor Jin saw him worrying and comforted him: "Since the matter has been handed over to the neighboring county, his Excellency will just wait for the good news."
Lao Tao is not as optimistic as he is. From what he said just now, the magistrate of the neighboring county didn't want to take over the case and he was afraid that even if he was forced to do so, he would only do it casually. It seems that there was still the need to use the Demon Sect's forces to investigate this case. Fortunately, Ming Zun entrusted the Tangyang County and a few other nearby places to him as a gesture of letting go of old grudges, so that he doesn't have to be like that time when he had to hide his head and tail, not daring to take action and with no one around to dispatch, he has to do everything himself.
Hao Guozi, who had been listening in, suddenly blurted out, "I still think this matter has nothing to do with Yiyu. What he said yesterday, was it covering it up?"
Gu Xiaojia had a hard time agreeing, "Yesterday, he was deliberately switching off the youngster beside him, perhaps because he was afraid that he would let slip his mouth."
Tao Mo listened to a round of comments and noticed that Gu-She alone hadn't opened his mouth to look at him.
Gu-She raised an eyebrow, "What's it to you?"
Tao Mo was startled but before he could say more, he had turned towards the desk.
Gu-She actually appreciated this attitude of Lao Tao. In his opinion, that Yiyu and Wan Feng are not good things, their death or life is not their business. But what happened in the beginning always made him uneasy, afraid that if he was really involved with those people and they tracked him here to find out where Tao Mo was, he would think of eliminating the root of the problem, so he had to be careful.
"Your word?" Gu-She asked suddenly.
Tao Mo was stunned, suddenly remembered that there are a few words on the table, is the original copy of Gu-She wrote the word "speedy trial", not by the face of a blush: "I, I have nothing to write."
Gu-She said, "Grind the ink."
Hao Guozi's eyebrows furrowed and he was about to say something when Gu Xiaojia pulled him back and said, "You haven't shown me around the magistrate's court yet."
"What's there to see in the county courthouse?" Hao Guozi tried to get away from him, not wanting to be tightened more and more and kept walking away, "Don't you understand the rituals?"
As they tugged on this side, Tao Mo had already poured the bowl of water into the inkstone and held the ink to grind gently.
Lao Tao knitted his brows.
Master Advisor Jin said, "Young Master Gu’s handwriting is one of the best in the world and I didn't expect to have the honor of admiring it." Most people in Tangyang County knows Gu-She's excellent handwriting but only a handful of people have seen it... Gu-She seems to be extremely stingy about showing off talent.
Gu-She didn't even look up, "And please, both of you move elsewhere."
Master Advisor Jin's foot that was about to head towards the desk fell back to its original spot without embarrassment and turned its head to look at Lao Tao.
Tao Mo waved his hand at them.
Lao Tao couldn't stop talking.
Master Advisor Jin sighed and turned to head out.
Lao Tao looked meaningfully at Gu-She without raising his head, silently exited the study and closed the door on his way out.
"The ink is too thick." Gu-She did.
Tao Mo realized he hadn't stopped and was busy adding a little more water.
Gu-She lifted his hand and swept it over the pen holder, barely picking a stroke, jabbing a bit of ink on the inkstone before getting up and ceding his place to Tao Mo.
Tao Mo sat down wonderingly.
Gu-She handed him the pen again.
Tao Mo took the pen and looked at him blankly.
"Write it." Gu-She did.
Tao Mo swallowed nervously and was about to set down his pen when he felt a warmth in his hand but it was actually Gu-She who took his hand and set it down gently.
The pencil kept shaking.
Gu-She frowned and turned to look at him.
Tao Mo's entire body looks like it's fallen into a red dye vat and its head is puffing out like a hot air.
Gu-She let go.
The pen slipped out of Tao Mo's fingertips for a moment.
"I, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." Tao Mo was incoherent.
Gu-She picked up the pen and replaced the paper with another, "Again."
This time, instead of being hands-on, he watched from the sidelines, pointing out the omissions of Tao Mo from time to time.
Practicing calligraphy is not something that can be done overnight. Tao Mo has no foundation at all and trying to copy Gu-She is like trying to get to heaven.
Gu-She taught me several times but when he saw no progress, he started with the simplest ones.
Tao Mo studied for a while, then his mind grew active and whispered, "Can't you learn the three words I know first?"
Gu-She seemed to be smiling, "Wait until you can write every stroke of those three words neatly."
Tao Mo looked at his crooked, east-facing words and agreed.
Gu-She, Gu Xianzhi, was supposed to be neat and pretty at all times.
