Chapter 7:
It was very late when
Thapakorn’s car was parked in front of the house where the lights were still
on, the girl in the seat next to him turned to look.
“Put the car in the
garage! Why are you stopping here?
“Just dropping you
here.”
“Oh, where are you going to sleep?”
“Nonn’s house.”
“Why are you going to
sleep at Nonn’s house? Just sleep here, there’s room in the office. I have to
go to the ranch early tomorrow, who told me not to patrol the ranch after 8
o’clock. That human must go to the ranch early with me or the work won’t be
finished soon.” Even though the latter sentence was said to be serious and
serious, Thapakorn laughed softly.
“I can come early.”
“Then why do you have to
sleep somewhere else?”
“I don’t want you to
think too much.” The tall figure’s words caused the person who was
understanding with a rather irritable mood to the point of frustration.
“... Even though I own
half of this place, I never wanted one. If I lay here, people will think I’m
trying to replace you in the hospital. This person will come and speak to you
in Lin’s body. You will think more.”
The tall figure’s words made Sawin stumped.
It was as if the hourglass had been flipped back 7 years ago, the day that
hatred quickly spread through his heart, the day he thought Thapakorn betrayed,
the day he thought Thapakorn had betrayed, that day he didn’t hear a word. from
the other side. He sat quietly, calmly listening to the name of the owner of
Warodom Ranch. As he burns like a fire because he thinks that his best friend
is no different from a relative like Inthra or Anucha who hopes to grab a hand
out of his father’s ranch.
“Why didn’t you say that
that day…
Thapakorn was silent, he wanted to say that he didn’t even have a
chance to speak. As soon as the will was opened, his name appeared as one of
the two owners of the ranch. Phonuma didn’t explain anything and made a face as
though she had just found out about it. At that moment, Thapakorn just realized
that he was the one who was betrayed and Sawin branded him as the one who took
Amon’s treasure without Phonuma saying nothing. He became quieter and from that
moment, his friendship burned to ashes.
“just let it be…” He
could only turn away, the big round eyes glancing at him. The light from the
doorway shone in and reflected in Sawin’s pain-soaked eyes.
“What about my feelings?
Why did you do it?” Sawin’s question trembled in the heart of the person who
was listening, Thapakorn was silent.
“For 7 years. I ask
myself every day what did I do wrong, that my most trusted friend did this to
me? Why did the friend who has been with me since I remember inherited half of
my father’s inheritance? Why is the friend I have no different from my father’s
younger relative coming after my inheritance? How disappointed I am, you know?
How sorry I am, do you know? For 7 years you left me with those feelings, come
today, you said just let it be?
“It’s better for you to
hate me than you hate others.” Thapakorn said in a low voice, his gaze fell
upon the person who sat looking at him with mixed feelings, the big round eyes
laced with pain and doubt.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s past Win, there’s
no point in saying anything right now. You’ve hated me for 7 years, there’s no
way to go back and fix it. But after this... Don’t hate me again, will you?”
“...” There was only silence instead of an answer
but that was enough. As long as Sawin doesn’t yell at him that he still hates
the person who was listening, there is hope that their relationship will
return.
The young man smiled faintly.
“It’s okay, go to sleep
now or tomorrow you won’t be able to wake up.” The big round eyes glanced up.
Just now, the conversation between them was awkward but as soon as Thapakorn
adjusted his tone, the atmosphere faded away.
“You? ... What time will
you be here?”
“How about at 5AM.? The
real ranch owner will complain about giving less time, not finishing work.”
“Ah! It has to be 3 am
so we can finish the job.” The tall figure widened his eyes, looking at his
watch that said it was already past ten.
“Hey, it’s midnight
already. We have to wake up to work at 3? How can we go to sleep enough?” He
said, waving his hand in fear, “How about 4:00 AM...” The young man kindly
agreed to reduce the time from 5AM. to 4:00 AM.
but a workaholic like Sawin frowned.
“If it’s 4:30AM you have
to finish work at ten.”
“So, can Lin’s body
handle it? Sleeping less but working a lot like this.” When Thapakorn came back
a bit, the person who had to be in the sister’s body gave a grunt.
“Win, now you’re in Lin’s
body. It’s impossible to live the same life again... Now you don’t take care of
this ranch alone, you have me with you. There is only this ranch, let’s take
care of it, set up two people. Why won’t the work be finished?” The person who
was heart sounded strangely warm, from the initial grunting to the acceptance
of the other party’s words but perfectly.
“Go, go to sleep.”
“You… drive well.”
Thapakorn was silent for a bit before giving a slight smile and nodding, the
girl opened the door and got out of the car. He waited until he saw a slender
figure entering the house and closing the door, then drove out of the ranch to
ask to sleep at Chanonn’s house not far from here.
…
Because it was past ten o’clock, the whole
house was silent. The servants had a room in the back and probably went to
sleep and all that was left was Phonuma, who was still sleepless and waiting
for her daughter to go outside with Thapakorn in the living room.
“Mom…” The person who
had just returned home called out softly as she walked through the living room
and saw that the light was still on, when she looked up and saw her mother
sitting alone.
Phonuma turned around and
gave a faint smile to those who entered the room.
“Why haven’t you slept
yet, mom? It’s very late.” Phonuma didn’t dare say that she couldn’t sleep
because Saman told me that she heard from the staff in the ranch restaurant
that Lalin went out with Thapakorn only two of them. Without knowing where she
was going, she was worried because both Lalin and Thapakorn never did any
foolish behaviors. Even if she is grown up, she has to worry, that’s okay. So,
she just sits here and waits.
“I will wait for you,
Lin. I see that it’s late and you haven’t returned yet.”
“Oh hey... er... Phii
Tha... just wanted to go see the sea, so we went to Pattaya.”
“Where did Tha go?” She
heard the sound of the car but didn’t see a young man walking in.
“He went to sleep at that
bas-... uh... Phii Nonn’s house but tomorrow morning he’ll come here, because
we have to go check the ranch together.” The
person who was listening sighed softly. Although Thapakorn has the status of a
daughter’s lover, the relationship of both persons is unknown to the masses and
especially the people in this ranch. No one knows the relationship between the
two except her and Sawin.
“Lin... I want you to be
careful, you are a woman. Going around with Tha, they’ll talk badly, because
besides the three of us mother and daughter only a few people know that Lin and
Tha will get married.” His mother’s words
stumped Sawin, he forgot. It’s completely gone that Thapakorn and Lalin are
getting married, the two of them dated without him knowing before and didn’t
even know when they agreed to date.
“Mom...before... Lin
with... With Phii Tha... did we love each other very much...” The daughter’s
honest question, causing the mother to smile thinly. A little wrinkled hand
gently stroked the slender, white hand and glanced at the photograph of a
family of four, parents and children. One of them had gone from them to another
realm and the other man was lying unconscious in the hospital.
“Lin, you love Phii Win
very much, even marry Tha... Tha, he’s good, he agreed to marry you knowing
that Lin doesn’t love him but just wants him to help Phii Win.” Her brows
furrowed in perplexity, the big eyes stared at her mother’s face.
“Mom, you mean... Me and
Tha didn’t love each other?”
“Well, you and Tha
confirmed for me. Oh... Well, that’s how Nonn told me that you might not be the
same, it takes a while to show that you forgot some things as well.”
“Yes…” Sawin pretended
to accept the word.
“Phii Win, he should have
known how good Lin and Tha were to him. If he wakes up, Lin should explain to
him why he married Tha but... If Phii Win finds out that Lin is willing to
marry someone she doesn’t love in order for Tha to ease the burden on the
ranch. Phii Win would be stubbornly opposed to it.” Phonuma said with a faint
smile, knowing his son’s personality well. That person would never be willing
to sacrifice his sister’s dignity to marry to make himself comfortable.
“Then... why is it Tha…”
“This matter mom asked
you but you won’t tell me, guess you have to wait for your memories to come
back first.” Sawin was silent, because he
knew it wouldn’t be very soon for him to find an answer. Why did Lalin choose
to marry Thapakorn? Even though his sister knows how much he hates Thapakorn.
... Or... Otherwise he should ask Thapakorn
why he agreed to marry Lalin, despite knowing that he hated that side for 7
years...
“What about you, mom? Why
did you allow me to marry... Mother you used to tell... Uh...? Didn’t you tell
Phii Win, that Phii Tha betrayed him that he wanted our ranch?” Phonuma was
silent, eyes dark, this fault was hers. The hatred that Sawin had for Thapakorn
all came from her.
“Mom…” Sawin saw his
mother silently calling softly, the late woman smiled faintly when she
realized.
“Tha is a good man, he
is not a traitor.”
“What do you mean by that
mother…
“Lin, you go to sleep,
don’t you have to get up early tomorrow to the ranch?” She said, getting up and pulling her daughter’s arm to walk up to the
room together. Sawin didn’t ask again. He knew that his mother had something in
mind, 7 years later her mother changed her mind and saw Thapakorn as a good
person. Even when the testament was opened, Phonuma was the one who told him
that Thapakorn was considering occupying the Warodom ranch but today she
welcomed Lalin to marry Thapakorn.
Sawin pursed his lips tightly as he returned
to his bedroom, he lay down on the bed. Hands crossed his forehead in
confusion, besides the matter of his mother’s consent to marry, there was also
the matter of Thapakorn’s consent to marry Lalin. What reason would that party
have to marry his sister and come back here? Even though there is no way to get
anything back...
…
Chanonn’s house is still
the same as when he was just a kid, Chanonn. Thapakorn knows this place well
because when he was still in Chonburi, he went in and out of this house as well
as the Warodom ranch. Today when he came to ask to stay overnight, the dear
friend’s parents were very pleased and even more Chanonn. even brought out a
can of beer for a feast.
“I can only drink one
can, tomorrow I have to pick up Win at 4:30AM.”
“In half four?!” cried
Chanonn.
“Well, he accused me of
limiting his time to leave the ranch before 8AM. So, he had to come and check
the ranch work at 4:30AM.. It even asked me at 3AM at first.”
“This Win is crazy.” The
owner of the house couldn’t help but complain a bit, Thapakorn nodded his head
and threw up the beer can.
“How is his body?”
“Well… it gets better
and better, except I don’t know when he is going to wake up.” Chanonn’s
response made the person who was listening worried. No one knows when ‘Sawin’
lying in the hospital will wake up again, or perhaps he will not wake up again…
“He ended up like this
because of me.” said Thapakorn in a low
voice, knowing full well that he was hated by Sawin but still brought himself
back into the circle of Sawin’s sister. Why did that car accident happen? Why
can’t he guess? That day Lalin had just called him and confirmed that she would
tell Sawin about the marriage and shortly thereafter. Phonuma called to say
that 2 siblings had an accident. The road where the accident occurred is the
line that runs into Bangkok. Why would Sawin bring Lalin to Bangkok? If it
wasn’t for him, the two of them had to suffer like this because of him.
“If you want to blame
yourself, then you blame yourself for allowing Amon to put your name in his
will in the first place. If there wasn’t your name, Win wouldn’t be mad at
you.”
“But if he doesn’t do
that, Win and Lin might not be alive until now. You see, since Amon died.
Before even the will was opened, Win had several accidents.”
“But I still don’t
understand. You also told me that Uncle Amon… and Aunt Phon knew about putting
your name in the will and why when they opened the will, Aunt Phon didn’t speak
to Win to make him understand.” Thapakorn shook his head.
“I don’t know, the day
when talking about marrying Lin Aunt Phon came to apologize to me, Aunt Phon
refused to tell me the reason.” He opened his mouth and sighed.
“Win hates you because
Aunt Phon didn’t say anything. You too, you are stubbornly silent, won’t speak
again.” murmured Chanonn.
“If I say this, then Aunt
Phon will say another thing, can you imagine what Win would be like?”
“Oh, so you’re the only
handsome scapegoat.”
“If I knew today that Win
would be like this, maybe that day… I might have said something, at least he
would believe it. He would be still living a normal life, not the way he is
today... I don’t know if he’ll get back to normal or not.” Chanonn was stunned but looked at the seat next to him, slumping up
the can of beer. Even though Thapakorn is not a very expressive person, he
seems to know that this dear friend blames himself for being part of the life
changing of the 2 Warodom siblings.
The young doctor reached out and took the
can of beer in Thapakorn’s hand that had not yet run out.
“I think you can go to
sleep, won’t you go to the ranch at 4:30 tomorrow? If you’re late, I can assure
you that you’re going to be insulted by Win. Win is more punctual than Big
Ben’s clock tower.” The threatened man
didn’t seem afraid but rather got up and walked back into the house. Chanonn
sighed softly, worried about Sawin, worried about Thapakorn. I don’t know what
sin causes one to suffer in a state of deformity. Others can only blame
themselves over and over again.
... Or this might not be Sawin’s only test
but it’s also Thapakorn’s test too…
The young doctor looked up at the sky as if
asking for sympathy from someone up there.
“Whatever you do, please feel sympathetic to
Tha too, Amon. He’d been hated for 7 years for his will. Don’t let him suffer
any more.” He muttered before walking back into the
house, without a chance to find out that outside the fence. Amon’s translucent
figure slowly appeared, the gloomy face looking into the house with pitying
guilt.
“I’m sorry Tha, I’m really sorry.”
Then the figure faded into the darkness.
…
4:30 AM, someone who was on time like Big
Ben’s clock tower was already standing in front of the house and waiting for a
moment in front of the house and even a moment later, the light from
Thapakorn’s car was streaked down the paved road leading to came to the house
but the girl’s face was still sullen.
“What time do I have an
appointment?” As soon as he opened the car door, Sawin suddenly asked a
question in a curt tone. The young driver glanced at the digital clock on the
dashboard of the car that showed the time at 4:36 am.
“It’s still half past
four, Win.”
“Four minutes later, it’s
4:40 AM. It’s not called 4:30.”
“Yes, and if you keep
standing and talking like this, it will become 5:00AM.” The young man retorted,
the girl’s big round eyes stared at him irritably but his mouth was indifferent
as he sat up.”
“Today I am going to see
the dike at the end of the ranch.”
“Go see the dike? Whilst
this dark?” asked the young man.
“There will be enough
light when we reach.” Thapakorn,
desperate to stop, could only sigh before giving in to the dictator. They drove
straight from the front of the house to the paved road that led to the vast
Warodom ranch. Even though it was 4:30 AM but the workers started working
sometime and they parked the car here often, when Sawin wanted to go down and
check the spots.
The image of the young woman and man
patrolling the ranch is not very familiar to the workers but everyone knows
that she is Lalin, Sawin’s only sister. As for the other man, even though many
workers had just seen him for the first time, he understood that Thapakorn was
a friend of Sawin who would come to help during the time Sawin was in the
hospital.
From 4:30 p.m. until almost 8AM, the sun
kept rising as the weather began to heat up but the workaholic Sawin continued
to pay attention to the care of the ranch unceasingly. The slender figure of a
young woman patrolled the sapling nursery for the last time before going to the
barrier as she said.
“There wasn’t one here
before?” asked Thapakorn, causing the person leading to turn to look.
“Yes. I just created to
plant saplings who do not yet know what effect it will have blocking the
overflowing season.”
“Even though there are no
workers busy around here.” Thapakorn guessed, because it was known as Sawin and
what a detailed person is and especially looking at the saplings line this. The
fact that he allowed him to set foot in the nursery is already a great merit.”
“I didn’t forbid it but
no one came.” Sawin argued but knew that he couldn’t hear him, because
Thapakorn knew him well. So, he shrugged and changed the subject, “Okay, finish
here, go look at the barrier and go back.” That person said that before using
the cap that Thapakorn gave to wave around, his other hand fluttered his shirt
to let the air in better. The young man turned to look, was about to accept his
words but his eyes suddenly saw something flashing from his open collar, so he
had to make a soft insulting sound.
“Win!” The insulted man
turned around and looked in disbelief.
“Don’t flutter your
shirt like that!” Thapakorn said in a stern voice, causing Sawin to look down
at his shirt in suspicion. Seeing the buttons open until he saw the full
breasts, the big round eyes opened even heavier before squinting up to look at
the tall figure beside him.
“Are you secretly looking
at my sister’s boobs?!” Tha didn’t say anything but the girl’s little fist
pounded into the man’s face loudly.
“I didn’t look! But I
turned around and saw it!”
“It’s the same thing!
You really can’t be trusted! Tha!” Sawin smashed without raising, even though
his fist was small but it was heavy according to the emotional force of the
smasher. Thapakorn had had to hold on to his small arms, otherwise his face
would probably collapse.
“If I can’t be trusted,
you will have not survived those two nights we slept together!” Tha yelled. But
the girl's big round eyes stared in disbelief before pulling the arm out of his
grip the young man seized, quickly fastened the buttons to the nape of the
neck.
“Will you be able to
breathe?” Thapakorn asked, seeing the person in front of the shirt buttoning
from the first to the last.
“It’s better for you to
sneak a peek at my sister’s breasts.” Sawin hissed. The tall figure sighed
wearily.
“I said I didn’t want to
see it.”
“But you still saw, how
long have you seen just now before you tell me. You bastard! Don’t let me know
that you are dishonest with my body, I will make you feel sorry!”
“If I’m dishonest, why am
I telling you?”
“For yourself, create a
picture that looks like a gentleman!”
“How can you think like
this?”
“So, what do you want me
to think?!” The young man and woman
argued all the way back to Thapakorn’s car that had been parked and then they
quarreled inside. Until the car drove down the paved path towards the end of
the ranch to look at the dike that had just been repaired, leaving the workers
to follow with curiosity.
“Uncle Kajon. Khun Lin
and Khun Tha, are they in a relationship? They are arguing like husband and
wife.” One of the workers turned to ask
the boss like Kajon, who recently observed from afar saw two young people
arguing with each other, their faces frowned, as if they were not in the mood
but they didn’t seem to care. How serious are the arguments, because they saw
them walking side by side to the car and sitting together anyway?
“Hoy! Say it! Khun Tha,
he’s a friend of Khun Win!”
“Oh! Well, Khun Win’s
friend came to flirt with Khun Lin! Just now there’s a quarrel pounding
together, it must have been weirdly ticklish, Uncle.” Kajon blinked his eyes slightly before chasing the workers who had
gathered their heads together to move to work but he was the one who couldn’t
think of it because he had already looked at it. Lalin and Thapakorn looked
like a young king of gold but when he thought of Sawin, the ranch manager who
knew his own boss how much he hated Thapakorn shook his head.
... There’s no way, just if Sawin wakes up
and finds out that Thapakorn has come to this ranch. I still don’t know how
many dozens of people will be cut off!
…
Sawin and Thapakorn who, despite having been
arguing for many times while working together, none of them turned away from
each other. Returning from the ranch, they went straight to work at the office.
I stayed there all day until Manat came in to be the last person to come home,
knowing that it had been a long time since they had been off work.
“It’s already six
o’clock.” Sawin muttered, glancing at the
clock on the wall after Manat had left the room, before turning to the long
sofa that his coworkers had been occupying for the rest of the session. In the
afternoon, he found that the tall man was sleeping soundly, one hand holding a
document on his lap. The other hand agrees to the side.
A workaholic like Sawin was suddenly
furious when he saw the other man was sleeping, even though he was still
working his head around. The thin woman got up from the chair behind the large
desk and immediately walked straight to the sofa, opening her mouth to let out
a loud roar to knock the sleeper out of the dream but something blocked his
voice.
The big round eyes stared at Thapakorn’s
face , sleeping soundly but wrinkles of exhaustion were evident on them. No
wonder the other side was so tired that he fell asleep like this. Ever since
the tall figure had to bring his own life to be tied to him, taking him on a
search for holy water and helping with ranch work. Where will he have the
strength to drive the car back to Bangkok to go back to clear the job? No
matter how healthy a young man is, if you have to do it day and night like
this, your body will get tired a bit.
Sawin decided to quietly walk out of the
office and go downstairs to the restaurant on the ground floor which was still
open. He disappeared for a while before coming back up again, this time with
the restaurant staff bringing back the food tray. As soon as the food tray was
placed on the glass table in front of the sofa, the sleeping person seemed to
be awake. The smell of hot food wafted to his nose until he had to open his
eyes and seeing Sawin standing nearby brought back all his consciousness.
Thapakorn flinched and sat up with his back straight, his surprised look.
“What? Why are you making
that face? I went downstairs and ordered some food.” The slim figure standing
in front of him made a green noise.
“Uh... nothing…”
Thapakorn was quiet, feeling spoiled for falling asleep without realizing it.
He rubbed the back of his head vigorously to make him feel fully awake. Sawin
saw that gesture and understood that the other party was still sleepy, so he
headed to the bathroom.
“Go wash your face and
wash your eyes, then come out to eat.” The young man nodded in agreement before
getting up and walking to the bathroom simply. Sawin sits down on the sofa,
picking up a plate of food from the tray. As he was about to eat, suddenly he
thought of the person who got up to go to the bathroom, so decided to put the
utensils down and wait until Thapakorn came out again.
The tall figure looked
at the two plates of food that one dish was placed in front of the woman, the
other had not been touched so he guessed that the other party would have
ordered for him. Thapakorn walked back to his original seat. When he reached
out his hand to pick up a plate of rice and put it in front of him. The person
who was seated first then picked up the spoon and fork and scooped the rice
into his mouth.
The young man smiled
slightly, realizing that Sawin would be waiting to have dinner with him, so he
sat still until he left the bathroom.
“What time will we leave
tomorrow?” Because there was only silence
between them, Sawin was the one who asked questions first. Tomorrow they are
scheduled to travel north in search of two temples in Lamphun and Lampang
provinces, to find holy water as the Reverend Father had named the temples.
“Tomorrow, I have to go
to the office first. If so, can we leave early in the morning?”
“You haven’t asked for
time off yet?”
“I asked for a time off
already but I have a meeting tomorrow. At least I have to go and have a look at
the documents.” Thapakorn’s words made
the person who was listening worried. The tall figure was doing his full-time
job, working here. The other day he had to hit the bus back to
Bangkok-Chonburi, no wonder he was so tired.
“You sleep here
tonight.” Sawin’s words made the person who was scooping rice into his mouth
unexpectedly look up, this was the second time that Sawin invited him to stay
at Warodom ranch, despite previously announcing that he would never let him
step foot here again.
“So, you don’t have to
drive a car to Nonn’s house, anyway tomorrow morning you have to come here
anyway. Just sleep here. As for clothes, if you don’t have any then put mine on
first and tomorrow we’ll stop by Nonn’s house and take your bags and go to
Bangkok once. You don’t have to drive back and forth.” Then the commanding man
ordered another large, long set of things that the person who was listening could
only blink his eyes.
“What? Why are you
looking at me like that?” And because Thapakorn kept looking at the person
speaking, Sawin thought about it until he had to ask in a harsh voice.
“You... are you sure
Win?” because of the 7 years of feuding relationship, the hatred that Sawin had
towards him. Just today he had stepped on here, Thapakorn thought it was
unexpected enough but what turned out to be more unexpected was when Sawin
ordered him to stay here again without clothes, and he wanted to.
“I just... let me sleep
only during this period...” replied and suddenly became annoyed, a small white
hand grabbed the cutlery together and got up to take the plate downstairs but
Thapakorn’s hand grabbed his arm.
“Win…” the big round
eyes glanced at the restraining person, the tall figure staring at him was full
of concern.
“... If I sleep here,
won’t you think too much?” Thapakorn’s question reflected his concern for him,
the person who was heart trembling like never before until he had to turn his
gaze towards him. the other and pulls his hand out of that big, hot palm.”
“If I’m not sure, will I
invite… er… why would I order you to sleep here? Hurry up and eat so we can go
home and rest for a while.” Sawin ordered one last time before turning around
to walk downstairs but Thapakorn was faster because he could ask questions
before the other party opened the door to leave the room.
“Go home? ... ‘Here’ you
will let me sleep. You mean not at the office but at home?” The big round eyes glanced slightly, not
understanding himself either why he was willing to let go of his feelings of
anger and hatred so easily. Again, this is the second time he’s willing to let
the other party stay here. In spite of the fact that he had previously said
that he would not allow Thapakorn to step on the Warodom ranch.
...but... whatever the reason, he... gave
up... already...
“Mmmh.” The slender figure gave a short reply before
turning around and walking out of the room, leaving Thapakorn in the same place
where he was attacked by a shock that made his heart tremble uncontrollably.
... and Thapakorn knows well... His heart
trembled like this... It’s because who...
