S.C.I Mystery vol 1 Chapter 50, The Magic Killer 05: Curse.
Zhao Zhen one word: "I remember who you are..." And Bai Chi's phrase, "Liar!" And the people present froze.
Zhan Yao asked Bai Chi, "You guys used to know each other?"
Zhao Zhen laughed a bit awkwardly, while Bai Chi bowed his head in disbelief, seeming to be angry with something.
After a long silence, Zhao Zhen suddenly softened his voice and asked Bai Chi, "You... Are you not stammering anymore?"
Hearing this, Bai Chi turned his face and gave Zhao Zhen a hard glare, with a faint mist of water in his eyes, before turning around and pulling Zhan Yao back and saying, "I want to go back first."
"Don't, don't!" Zhao Zhen even reached out to pull him, "Sit down and leave later, it's been a while..."
Bai Chi shook off his hand with a force: "Don't you touch me!"
"No touch, no-touch..." Zhao Zhen quickly retracted his hand and smiled apologetically.
A thought flashed through the minds of all the people present, could it be that Zhao Zhen had done something needing to apologize to Bai Chi? Why else would the little guy be so cordial?
Bai Yutang rushed Zhan Yao and raised an eyebrow, meaning, "See? The rabbits bite when they're in a hurry..."
Zhan Yao glared at him, "Aren't you messy enough? --No more messes!"
The old butler suddenly "Ah!" He looked at Zhao Zhen and Bai Chi and laughed.
Bao Zheng asked, "Why, do they have any connection?"
Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang immediately looked at Bao Zheng with admiration and said, "You're really the boss.......
The butler led the group to the living room, served tea, and told them a little bit about the year.
Generally speaking, kids who are different don't have a happy childhood... No friends because they're different.
Let's say, for example, why Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang always hang out together, because it's hard for others to fit in between the duo when they're growing up.
Bai Yutang knew that by the age of ten, Zhan Yao had become proficient in three languages and could read very thick and original texts. Zhan Yao knew that at the age of ten, Bai Yutang could shatter twelve bricks with his bare feet, and could fight one-on-one with his uncle in the police station, who was several times older than him. In other words, if, after hours, if Bai Yutang's side did not have Zhan Yao, and Zhan Yao's side did not have Bai Yutang's speaking to him, then their childhood, both would have been a lonely childhood, because, it would be difficult for them to find other friends.
However, not every gifted child in this world will be lucky enough to have a gifted childhood friend. Take Bai Chi for example, and Zhao Zhen for example.
Zhao Zhen's mother is French, so he was born in France and didn't return with his father until he was almost ten years old. When he returned home, Zhao Zhen still didn't speak Chinese, so... He had no friends. To give his baby boy a break, Zhao Zhen's father gave him this Little white lion called "Lisbon", who has been Zhao Zhen's only friend ever since.
Bai Chi's childhood was even more unfortunate because, a sweet child was born into a family full of martial arts stars, and Little Bai the rabbit was like something of a rabbit who was born into a lion pack.
From childhood, Bai Chi has lived under the strict demands of his fathers, living in the shadow of the cousin he never met. Bai Chi is a slow runner with poor balance and very little guts, the only thing that's good is probably good memory and fast math... But all this is not appreciated in the Bai Family. So, the lonely Little Bai Chi became cautious about everything, and he had no friends.
Little Bai Chi's favorite thing is to go to the library and borrow a book that adults can't even gnaw on, to hide in a place where no one is around, but where he can sunbathe and see flowers and plants, and read with great enjoyment. He had a number of small secret bases that belonged to him, one of his favorites, in the small courtyard behind the library, and the gatekeeper would kindly treat him to a snack.
Day after day after day for a long time, suddenly one day, a very cute big white "cat", tumbled in through the short wall.
Seemingly hungry, Bai Chi treats him to his own snack, glutinous rice gnocchi, after which one "cat" and one "rabbit" build a strong bond.
From now on, every day after school, Bai Chi would bring something to eat from home, and the cat would be there on time, and Bai Chi's purpose for coming to the library had changed from reading to simply playing with the cat. Until one day, a beautiful little boy, shouting "Lisbon", found the yard, and the boy was Zhao Zhen.
Zhao Zhen has been obsessed with magic since he was a child, and this may have been inherited from his famous magician grandfather. And his grandfather had discovered that this grandson had an extremely high talent, so Zhao Zhen had three hours of magic practice every afternoon. Originally, little "Lisbon" had to practice with Zhao Zhen, so he snuck out to play with him. Gradually, it fell in love with spending time with Bai Chi and came home later and later, until Zhao Zhen found out about its timed disappearance and looked for it.
Seeing Lisbon, who is having fun with Bai Chi, Zhao Zhen has a feeling of betrayal and decides to teach the "little guy" who stole his best friend a lesson.
Children are not the same. They may all be only as tall as your knees, they may all be afraid of the dark, they may all love snacks more than staples... But there's still a big difference between kids. For example, Zhan Yao was the kind of little angel from childhood who would pick up injured animals from the road and bring them back to raise them. Bai Yutang, on the other hand, is the kind of little devil who puts caterpillars in his teacher's chalk box.
Bai Chi, a somewhat dull little angel, and Zhao Zhen, a somewhat bad little devil.
Zhao Zhen becomes friends with Bai Chi by looking for Lisbon, who is surprised to find that the somewhat dull child speaks French, and then, after gaining Bai Chi's trust, Zhao Zhen ruthlessly – lied to him.
That day, Bai Chi went to the library as usual to find his "cat" to play with his new friends.
Zhao Zhen gleefully told Bai Chi that he could do magic.
Not believing Bai Chi, Zhao Zhen performed one of his latest learned tricks, turning a pigeon into a frog - and in the course of a few days of interaction, Zhao Zhen learns that Bai Chi's greatest fear is the frogs.
Finally, Zhao Zhen tapped Bai Chi three times on the shoulder, saying that he had put a spell on him that as soon as Bai Chi spoke, he would turn into a frog.
A frightened Bai Chi, crying, ran away, and Zhao Zhen triumphantly hugged Lisbon back home, and in a moment, had forgotten all about it.
A month later, Bai Chi's mother showed up at Zhao Zhen's doorstep. She had only come to inquire about the situation at first, for her child had not spoken since Little Bai Chi had returned from the library that day.
Zhao Zhen now knew that Bai Chi had really bought his lie/trick, and when he told Bai Chi that he had helped him undo the magic, Bai Chi's words began to came out but it was a stutter.
Little Bai Chi's stammer never got better, but Lisbon had become best friends with him, often sneaking out and not returning, as if Bai Chi was his real master. Zhao Zhen, because of his guilt, didn't cause any more trouble... It's just that the stammering made Bai Chi's already bad childhood even more miserable. At school, children laughed at him; at home, his parents always looked at him with a pitying and sorry look... He became even more timid and uncomfortable to talk.
A year later, Zhao Zhen took Lisbon back to France... He didn't say goodbye to Bai Chi, though Bai Chi hadn't paid him any attention since he'd lied to him, Zhao Zhen understood in his heart that if Lisbon left too, Little Bai Chi would be even lonelier, and he was afraid to see Little Bai Chi crying with red eyes like a bunny.
In fact, Zhao Zhen had never forgotten about him, and because of that, the grown-up Zhao Zhen liked to go to the local library wherever he went... He hopes to meet Little Bai Chi again. Only, the kid he remembered was a timid little stutterer... Now Bai Chi is not only not a stutterer, but he's a cop.
It wasn't until he saw Bai Chi hugging Lisbon and Zhao Zhen recognizing the outline of the kid - he called him a liar... Bai Chi called him a liar...
After listening to the butler's account, Bao Zheng and the others were all in tears and laughter.
Zhan Yao winked at Bai Yutang, meaning, "He's worse than when you were a kid!"
Bai Yutang nodded, "That's true, simply unforgivable!"
The two then looked at Zhao Zhen with contempt and said, "You're Zhao Jue's nephew, what bloodline heredity!"
Then it occurred to them that Bai Chi did stammer involuntarily when he was nervous or scared... So this is where the problem lies.
Sympathetically, he gave Bai Chi a look; "It's been a lifetime of victimization... It's too bad..."
"Cough, cough, cough," Zhao Zhen felt a bit overwhelmed even with his thick face and changed the subject, "Uncle Bao, what did you just say that you wanted my help?"
...
Only then did the crowd remember that there was serious business, Zhan Yao took out the pictures of the magic array in the file bag, showed them to Zhao Zhen, and asked, “These pictures, what is the special meaning of them? Don't you understand?"
Zhao Zhen took over the diagram and looked at it carefully, looking down at it photo by photo, his frown tightening as well. After looking at the pictures, Zhao Zhen removed the cups from the tea table and divided the pictures into two piles.
Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang watched his movements puzzled and somewhat curious.
Zhao Zhen finished, leaned back on the couch and asked, "That white figure in the middle... Is it a corpse?"
The pictures that Zhan Yao had brought with him were all of the magical arrays that was left after the bodies were removed, after all, Zhao Zhen was not a police person and the pictures of the bodies were not good to see. Seeing him ask, he nodded.
Zhao Zhen laughed and said, "The patterns on these photos were not drawn by one person."
Bai Yutang looked at the two piles of photos on the table and asked, "You split into two piles of whose and whose, are there only two?"
"No, this I can't be sure of." Zhao Zhen shook his head, "I can only be sure that these patterns, a bunch of them are right and a bunch of them are wrong."
Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang exchanged glances, vaguely surprised.
"Do you understand the meaning of these patterns?" Zhan Yao asked.
"Hmm." Zhao Zhen nodded and said, “The true origin of these patterns is the totems of the primitive tribes. Originally, they were very irregular, and then as alchemy became prevalent, people sorted through the patterns and gradually evolved into fixed patterns."
"Alchemy?" Bai Yutang frowned, "Is it that esoteric?"
Zhao Zhen laughed, "The diagrams of alchemy, with a simpler structure and prominence, are also the constellations and various elements... These diagrams, you see." Saying, he pointed to the picture and said, "Eyes, sex, snakes... No longer condensed abstract symbols, but figurative objects."
Zhan Yao nodded, "That is, developed?"
"Smart." Zhao Zhen smiled and said, "It's true that you're a genius... Indeed, these were developed from the Alchemy Map."
"And what exactly is that?" Bai Yutang asked.
"... Curse!" Zhao Zhen said, "All are made on behalf of the divine retribution."
"Divine retribution?" A look of disbelief crossed the crowd's faces.
"Exactly! God damn it!" Zhao Zhen repeated, "The eye, which represents the eye of Death God, caused the death of the accursed one to represents the evil he once committed. Sex, which represents unclean relations between a man and a woman and causes the death of the accursed, is the sinful one and is generally used for cursing or mistress. The serpent, representing the lie that causes the death of the accursed, is his deception of the world..."
"Then you just said that there's a part of the drawing there that's wrong... What does that mean?" Zhan Yao was puzzled.
Zhao Zhen said, "In fact, you guys should show me the pictures with the bodies, it would be more accurate... Because, there is a direct relationship between these pictures and the cursed object."
"You mean, what kind of person should match what kind of figure, it's all regulated?" Zhan Yao said.
"Haha~~" Zhao Zhen laughed, "It's so much easier to talk to you, just a little bit... That's right. These diagrams. It's drawn correctly, like a professional magician has drawn it, but these..." He picked up another pile, "It's just rough, and apparently, the people who painted these have no understanding of the curse itself."
Bai Yutang picked up the picture, his face growing in amazement as he took the one of Xu Jiali and said, "You said this one and the previous ones weren't made by the same person?"
Zhao Zhen sighed and nodded, "So to speak."
Zhan Yao looked at the two recent cases and picked up Zhang Zhenzhen and Sun Qian's and asked, "Are these two from the same person?"
Zhao Zhen shook his head with a smile, "I can only say that these two drawings were drawn by professionals, whether they are the same person or not, I don't know... But..."
"But what?" Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang looked at him.
Zhao Zhen picked up Sun Qian's one and said, "The person who drew this one is the best, do you know why?"
Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang looked at each other and said at the same time, "Because the one who was killed was a child, this never appeared before, but the pattern was drawn right!"
"OKAY!" said Zhao Zhen approvingly, "Dealing with smart people is just easy!"
