S.C.I Mystery vol 1 Chapter 30, The Killer Training Camp 02: Sniper Case.
At the sound of gunfire, Zhan Yao was already flashing to the balcony as soon as the floor-to-ceiling curtains were drawn. A few daring guests followed suit, drawing all the curtains around them and turning the entire ballroom into a fully enclosed room.
Bai Yutang turned and rushed into the elevator, addressing a few somewhat alarmed guests, "Call the police! No one leaves until the police come, it's safer to stay indoors now!"
Zhan Yao rushed at the moment the elevator doors closed.
"Cat'er, what are you doing here?" Bai Yutang took the gun in one hand and pulled off the tie that had been bothering him for a long time, tucking it haphazardly into his pants pocket.
"I'm going too!" Zhan Yao also pulled out his gun. Zhan Yao had been carrying this pocket Remington with him ever since Bai Yutang had given it to him.
Bai Yutang winked somewhat amusedly at Zhan Yao, “Cat'er, watch out later, don't shoot me, and don't shoot yourself in the face!"
Rage!
"White Mouse! I'll give you a shot now!" Zhan Yao exhaled, raised his hand, and took aim.
Bai Yutang grabbed his hand in succession, "Boy, Cat'er, what will you do with the rest of your life if you hurt me?"
"You go to hell!" Zhan Yao lifted his foot and kicked, Bai Yutang dodged, and the elevator door opened with a ding.
The two immediately collected their smiles and ran quickly towards the building across the street.
The congregation in the banquet hall was stunned by this sudden turn of events.
The unfortunate man who had been shot was collapsing to the ground in pain, Ding Zhaohui crouched down to pick him up, and Zhaolan reached out and pressed his shoulder, which was bleeding outward, causing him to scream out in pain again.
"Bear with me!" Zhaohui reassured him and turned his face to Bai Jintang, who was standing on the sidelines with a grimace.
Bai Jintang nodded at him, and Zhaohui took out his phone and called the police.
Suddenly, Jon exclaimed, "Doctor..."
The congregation's attention immediately shifted, just as Dr. Wilson covered his chest, jerked a few times, and fell upright to the ground.
"Doc... Ah!" Jon faltered and dropped to the side, "He... He has fainted! He has fainted..."
"Calm down, it's just a sudden myocardial infarction!" A cool voice rang out, and Gong-sun had already walked over to Professor Wilson's side, "Help him lie down."
Perhaps it was Gong-sun's calmness that infected the crowd, and several guests came up to level the old man with seven hands and feet everyone helping out.
Gong-sun undid Wilson's collar and said to the crowd, "Leave two men to raise his legs and the others to stand back, he needs air circulation!"
The crowd immediately did as they were told.
Lowering his head and pressing his ear to Wilson's chest, Gong-sun listened intently, then straightened up and reached over and fumbled back and forth a few times at the location of his heart. After selecting the position, the left hand was placed flat against his chest, and the right hand clenched into a fist and pounded hard and rhythmically on the left hand a few times.
"Cough..." Just then Professor Wilson shuddered violently, coughed, and let out a sharp breath. Gong-sun began to rummage through the professor's clothing pockets, quickly turning out a small bottle containing several capsules. Looking at the label of the bottle, Gong-sun took one out and unscrewed it. Bowing his head to Wilson, he said, "Open your mouth and stick your tongue out."
Wilson's consciousness seemed to have returned somewhat and he opened his mouth.
Gong-sun cupped his jaw and poured the medicine carefully under his tongue, sighing with relief, "Hold on."
Wilson swallowed the drug and closed his mouth.
Gong-sun uncuffed his cuffs and took his pulse in his left hand, looking at his watch in his right.
Half a minute later, Wilson was visibly better. He looked gratefully at Gong-sun, who said to him just a little coldly, "Lie still."
With that said, he stood up and walked off to the side without looking back.
The crowd in the hall also let out a long breath, the original tension eased a lot.
Bai Jintang stood far away, yet kept his eyes fixed on Gong-sun's every movement, not leaving for a second.
Gong-sun felt his gaze and glared back viciously.
Bai Jintang suddenly smiled and took a sip of his wine, his lips slowly touching the clear glass wall, the golden liquid slowly flowing into his mouth...
Gong-sun cursed in his heart, "Rascal!" He really admires Bai Jintang, such a simple move can be so "nasty".
Bai Jintang stared at Gong-sun's turned face and slightly reddened ears and also scolded hard in his heart, "Damn, how sexy it looks!"
Bai Yutang and Zhan Yao rushed up to the top floor to see the iron door on the rooftop hollowed out, making a rhythmic cackling sound in the night wind.
The two men stood left and right on either side of the gate.
Gently pushing the door open, Bai Yutang burst through and Zhan Yao followed.
The night was as cool as water on the rooftop, and on the fence directly facing the hotel, there was a man lying on his back.
The two glanced at each other and quickly ran over.
The man was already dead, and the bloodied, blackened left eye and the scattered shards of glass on the ground all indicated that Bai Yutang's shot just now had pierced directly through the infrared sight.
Even though the night was dark and there was little light around, Zhan Yao could tell that the "killer" seemed to be young, at most twenty years old, and was vaguely suspicious.
At that moment, Bai Yutang suddenly tightened his whole body and watched the rooftop door vigilantly.
Zhan Yao was familiar with every customary move of Bai Yutang. Whenever he found danger, it was like this, as it was now, it was as if the muscles all over his body were tensed, ready to pounce on the leopard that had gone out to tear at its prey.
Zhan Yao also tensed involuntarily, and Bai Yutang waved a hand at him, signaling him to not be restless and pulling him to the side of the rooftop, hidden behind the bulging pipe.
In the middle of the night, Bai Yutang's eyes that were staring tightly at the gate glowed vaguely, alert, excited... Suddenly remembering what Qin Jiaqi had said about Bai Yutang that day in the prison - the Exorcist.
Indeed! From a young age, as long as Bai Yutang was around, it was as if nothing was terrible. Zhan Yao only now understands why he was so bold because the man never gave himself the chance to learn to be afraid.
In the midst of his rambling thoughts, a faint footstep sounded at the door, who would go up to the rooftop at this hour? Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang both stared at the door with full attention.
As the footsteps approached, a column of flashlight beams swept in, and the two immediately held their breath.
"Who... Who's up there?" The voice seemed to tremble a little, and Zhan Yao and being glared at by Yutang, puzzled.
By this time, the man had stepped across the rooftop.
A black uniform with a flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other... A policeman?
"Who... Who's there?" The policeman's hand light had already shone on the dead man who was lying on the fence, his voice trembled even more and he walked over tremblingly...
"Momma~~~" upon seeing the dead man's bloodied face, the small policeman shouted in shock and sat down on his buttocks.
Bai Yutang looked straight up and frowned, cursing, "Wretch."
"Who... Who?" The policeman heard the unusual movement and, startled, raised his gun and aimed it in the direction of the pipe.
"Don't shoot, we're cops." Seeing Bai Yutang's impatient face, Zhan Yao shouted at the little cop.
"The police... Police? Do you have...? Yes, what evidence... do you have?" the little cop asked with a shaky voice.
Bai Yutang stood up and made a bold move towards him.
"Don't... Don't come any closer, or I'll shoot... La." The small policeman panicked and pointed his gun at Bai Yutang, backing away with a warning.
Unfortunately, Bai Yutang didn't pay him any attention and walked straight ahead.
"I... I shot... I shot..." The little policeman grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger, but it just wouldn't budge.
"Yah~~" came a cry of pain, and the gun was in Bai Yutang's hand had reached him.
Opened the revolver, looked at the magazine and saw that all six bullets were full. Bai Yutang reached out and pulled out the police officer's ID card that was in the pocket of the officer's jacket, opened it, and compared it with a real person, matching everything except for a slightly exaggerated facial expression.
“Bai Chi?" I'm a little complicated in pronouncing his name. Who are his parents?
“Yeah..."
Zhan Yao had also walked over to the two and pulled out his police card to show him, "Take it easy, we're both cops."
Bai Chi stared dumbfounded at Zhan Yao's police card and opened his mouth in surprise, unable to say a word.
Bai Yutang asked him, "How did you get up here?"
"Uh..." Bai Chi scratched his head in embarrassment, "I... I went on my first street patrol today..."
Bai Yutang and Zhan Yao nodded their heads in surprise at the same time - sure enough.
"Just now... I went downstairs and I heard a gunshot and a gun dropped.... So I came up to take a look." Bai Chi blushed a little and looked up at Zhan Yao again: "On your police card... Are you S.C.I.'s?"
Zhan Yao smiled gently at him, "My name is Zhan Yao and his name is Bai Yutang."
Bai Chi immediately turned red in the face and stared at Bai Yutang with his mouth wide open in horror: "You... You are, Bai... The team... Captain?"
Bai Yutang looked at him funny, put his police card back in his jacket pocket, raised his gun and asked him, "Do you know why the trigger didn't click?"
"Uh..." Bai Chi shook his head somewhat confusedly.
Removing all the bullets, Bai Yutang handed the empty gun back to Bai Chi and sneered, "Next time, remember to remove the safety pin!"
...
The atmosphere in the banquet hall was heavy and abnormal, with Ding Zhaohui and Ding Zhaolan tending to the wounded man, waiting for an ambulance.
Every second seems unbearably long as the crowd is held in the closed room.
Bai Jintang walked over to Gong-sun's side and was about to say something when someone stepped closer to interrupt.
"Mr. Bai, what an unlucky day."
Turning his head, he saw a wealthy old man in his fifties with a few young men in suits, standing before him.
"It's a shock to Mr. Pang." Bai Jintang politely apologized to the old man, but instead there was nothing to be sorry about. The man in front of him is Pang Ji, the family business is mainly in nightclubs and is a well-known landlord in S City. Bai Jintang had done a certain amount of research long ago and didn't feel that there was anything good about him.
"Hehe, the Bai Group has just opened and suffered this misfortune, could it be some kind of foreshadowing? It seems that S City is not a blessed place for Mr. Bai." Pang Ji glanced slightly at the crowd behind him and said, "Everyone, I'm going to say goodbye first, it's too unsafe here."
The crowd rose and fell slightly, and a few people tried to follow suit.
Pang Ji turned around with satisfaction, just about to leave when he suddenly stopped. His gaze fell on Gong-sun, who was sitting blandly on one side of the couch, and asked kindly, "Aren't you going? Want to come along?"
Originally, Pang Ji was thinking that Gong-sun had just calmly saved Dr. Wilson and that his actions would have some impact on the crowd. As soon as he left, many of those present would have followed! Also, Gong-sun does not seem to have a good relationship with Bai Jintang.
Gong-sun looked up somewhat dismissively at Pang Ji, sighed, and said leisurely, "How is that going to work?" He said, sweeping a glance at Chen Jiayi and Fang Jing, who were both also sitting calmly drinking, "The ladies present are so brave and calm, as men, how can we the men be so scared that we can clip their tails and run first?"
"Poof..." The twins who were already so angry that they wanted to draw their guns couldn't help but laugh out loud, and the other guests present, especially the male guests, also straightened their chests and became calm and unhurried to leave.
At this time, the sirens sounded at the right time from downstairs.
Bai Yutang and Zhan Yao walked out of the building with junior police officer Bai Chi, just in time to meet Ai Hu and various members of the Serious Crimes Unit who had arrived in a hurry.
"Captain!" Ai Hu has never been able to change the name he called Bai Yutang ever since he used to work under him, and he is so bent out of shape when he sees him.
"How's it going upstairs?" Bai Yutang asked about the banquet hall first.
"The wounded and one with a heart condition were already in the ambulance and the rest of the crew registered and dispersed." Ai Hu said, "Fortunately, no one was killed."
Bai Yutang frowned and nodded, "The dead are on the rooftop."
"By the way, did you find the murder weapon?" Zhan Yao asked.
"That's what I came to talk to you." Ai Hu got serious and a police officer beside him handed over the badly fallen sniper rifle.
"Barrett M82A1"? Bai Yutang felt a bit of a headache; it was the most widely used sniper rifle, though they weren't easy to come by.
"This case should probably be turned over to the S.C.I.," Ai Hu said suddenly.
"What?" Zhan Yao and Bai Yutang froze at the same time.
Ai Hu shook his head, "This is the fourth sniper assassination this month."
...
The late-night came quietly, darkness invaded every corner, and fear had nowhere to hide.
Standing at the top of the city, looking at it, it feels like the glittering city is a huge machine, running forever.
Di~~~~~
The computer screen flashed again and the mail flew in.
"Let sin be exposed to the wilderness, let ugliness have no place to hide, and let the foul hypocrites, who are foul, taste the sickle of the devil."
Turn off the display, open your arms, feel yourself become a unique presence in the quiet, laughter, filling the night sky.
There was a constant sound of sad howling at the edge of that valley, and a gale that never ceased.
I was horrified to find many souls tumbling helplessly forward and fluttering in the gale, some of them inevitably crashing against the mountain wall, with painful cries and mournful cries... I could not bear it.
